Welcome

Hi and welcome to my Deep Learning Blog.

The aim of this blog is for you to be able to take away with you all the information from the session in one compact place. I will also embed examples of the games on here to hopefully show you how easy it is to do and to inspire you to create your own educational games to further the learning of your own students as well as an example of using a video flipping the classroom.

The websites we have looked at during the session are ClasstoolsEDpuzzle, and Puzzlemaker.

Don't just take my word for it, here are some videos with compelling reasons as to why we should all be incorporating gaming into our teaching.

And for those wanting to take it to the next step.

Classtools

Classtools is an excellent multi-facetted site with loads of different things to help teachers. However, what we're interested in this time is the gaming aspect of the site. Therefore, we'll be looking at just 3 components namely the Arcade game generator, PacMan and also the Dustbin game generator.

Whilst Classtools does not record the students progress in a markbook at such it does generate a high score which it records and lets you check. It also enables you to embed your game easily in a blog or site.

TIP - do NOT write your questions and copy and paste them from a word processing document as it will not work. Type your questions directly into the site. Alternatively, get your students to design their own questions.

EDpuzzle

EDpuzzle is a great and easy way for you to insert questions into Youtube videos. You can therefore set the video and questions as a homework to evaluate the level of your students so giving you immediate formative data which will guide your differentiated classroom.

The advantage of Edpuzzle is that it is very simple to use and is free. You can import all your classes directly from Google Classroom so saving data entry time.

Puzzlemaker

Puzzlemaker offers an excellent, and more importantly, quick way to create puzzles. These can be used for either worksheets in class, homework or extension exercises.

Unfortunately there is no embedding option here so the only option is to copy and paste to either your blog, site or simply a word processing document.
